CBA: former head of Mazowsze NFZ detained in a case tied to private eye clinic

Officers of the Regional Office of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau in Wrocław, acting at the request of District Prosecutor from Jelenia Góra, have detained Adam T., the former Director of Mazowsze Branch of the National Health Fund on February 6. The prosecutor has charged Adam T. with exceeding his authority, which led to a financial gain of PLN 13.5m by one of Warsaw’s medical clinics. The case falls under article 231, item 2 of the Criminal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years of imprisonment.

The investigation also refers to an alleged financial gain of PLN 50,000 by an official at the Ministry of Health, related to the contracting of ophthalmology hospital treatment. During the course of investigation it was determined that the official, a Secretary of State at the Ministry of Health at the time, made extraordinary efforts to restore the contract with the Warsaw clinic as soon as it was terminated.

The case is still being investigated, with the officers taking further steps to determine the role of individual persons in the contracting of medical services with the Warsaw clinic at the end of 2013. Further arrests and charges are not excluded.
